University in Liverpool
The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts
LIPA was founded in 1996 with the support of leading figures from the world of arts and entertainment. Its Lead Patron is ex-Beatle, Sir Paul McCartney. Since then LIPA has firmly established itself as one of the world’s premier centres for the study of performing arts. Whilst graduates from our acting, dance and contemporary music programmes regularly hit the headlines, the majority of our students are not performers but rather those who make performance possible; as managers, technicians, sound technologists and designers. The School's reputation attracts students from all over the world and at present 30% of our 700 students are drawn from outside of the UK, representing forty different nationalities. The diverse student body means that LIPA students come from a variety of educational backgrounds and a feature of our admissions process is that we place as high a value on potential, artistic ability and a candidate’s passion for his chosen profession as for educational attainment.
