Work Permit for Students

Citizens of EEA countries and Switzerland can work without restrictions in Great Britain. They also do not require a visa. However, during the semester, students may not exceed 20 hours of work per week , not even if they work at other times less. With an income below the tax threshold, you don’t have to pay taxes. Students, who do not qualify for the above mentioned countries, can usually also work under the conditions mentioned in the UK because they already have an appropriate visa given for the studies. It is important that they have applied for an "entry clearance ". See also the section "Visa".

To work in the UK, you must apply for a "national insurance number ". However, this does not have to be available when starting work.

Find a Job

Many universities offer their students information and contacts in order to find part-time jobs. Most have their own Job Center.
