Report Your New Residence to the Authorities


Did you already found yourself a new residence in your host town? Then, you need to fulfill these formalities with during your first days.

Register with the Aliens Registration Office

Non-EU/EEA/Swiss citizens who are staying in the Netherlands for a short or long stay need to report to the local Aliens Registration Office ("Vreemdelingendienst" ) within three days after arrival in the country.

The Aliens Registration Office will put a sticker into your passport stating until which date you may stay in Holland. This sticker is free of charge. The validity date will correspond with what is mentioned on your short-stay visa, if applicable.

Finding your local Aliens Registration Office

You have to report to the local Aliens Registration Office . In order to find out its address and opening hours, you can ask a civil servant in the city hall, ask your host institution, or dial the national police telephone number 0900 8844.

Documents required when reporting to the Aliens Registration Office :

•    a valid passport,
•    your address in the Netherlands,
•    a proof that you can support yourself financially during your stay (€ 34 a day).
