The study system in the Netherlands is standardized with the European study system.

Bachelor

This is a three-year-program of full time study at a university (180 credits) or in four years at a HBO professional education institute (240 credits). To follow a master at the university with a HBO bachelor's degree, a one year switch program needs to be completed at the university.

Here is an overview of all available bachelor titles:

•    Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)
•    Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)
•    Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.)
•    Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.)
•    Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.)
•    Bachelor of Music (B.Mus.)
•    Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.)

Master

You obtain your Master's Degree after two or four semesters by reaching another 120 ECTS credits. The precondition for participating in a Master course is a Bachelor's Degree. It is about the same as a Diploma or Magister.

Here is an overview of all the available master titles:

•    Master of Arts (M.A.)
•    Master of Science (M.Sc.)
•    Master of Engineering (M.Eng.)
•    Master of Laws (LL.M.)
•    Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.)
•    Master of Music (M.Mus.)
•    Master of Education (M.Ed.)

Doktor (Ph.D.)

Doktor is the highest academic degree. After graduation (Magister, Diploma, Master, Staatsexamen), you can pursue a doctorate. It takes about two to five years, in medicine sometimes only a few months (but in this case, the previous time of studying is much longer). PhDs are only offered by universities and some institutes for international education.

Summer Courses

Many Dutch universities offer summer courses, giving you the opportunity to study language and culture. In an international atmosphere you will learn about the scientific facets of the Netherlands, along with the broad range of sports and leisure activities. Perhaps you will like it so much that you might want to stay longer in Holland for studies or research.
Here you can find a list of summer courses in the Netherlands.
