Grading System

The evaluation of course-related examination performances is made up of a 30-point scale. In order to pass an examination, you have to receive at least 18 to 30 points. For maximum points, some words of appreciation might be added (30 e lode ), which corresponds to the German mark ‘with distinction/honor’.

The evaluation of a final examination is done on a scale from 0 to 110. The successful pass an examination, you must achieve at least 66 of 110 points. Finally, the overall grade is made up of the various tests and the average score for the completion of scientific work and its public presentation.
For the best grade 110/110, some words of praise can be added (like in German, the attribute "with distinction/honor") if the members of the board of examination unanimously decides it.

Credit Points

One credit point corresponds as a rule to 25 hours of work for students (including studying alone). On average, a student should earn about 60 credit points during one semester.

Recognition

The university degrees or qualification acquired in Italy are usually recognized abroad. The standards and procedures of academic recognition are different from country to country.

In order to facilitate the international mobility of the students, information centers were established to provide information about the academic recognition in foreign countries. These national centers are coordinated by NARIC (Network of National Academic Recognition Information Centers ), which were initiated by the European Union, and by the ENIC (European Network of Information Centers ), and funded by the Council of Europe and UNESCO.

Italians who are interested in the recognition of their academic qualification abroad, may ask directly at the National Center (NARIC and ENIC) in the respective country, to obtain information about the formalities and procedures.

On the recognition of foreign academic titles in Italy, the universities decide on the basis of their autonomy (in the application of Article 2 and 3 of the Law 148/02 and the Lisbon Recognition Convention).
