In 1948, with US-American help students and professors founded the "Freie Universität Berlin" [FU] in order to create a place of free thinking for free people. Thus from the beginning onwards, commitment and scientific liberty has always been the trademarks of the Freie Universität Berlin.
Nowadays, it is one of the biggest German universities. It offers around 130 study programmes, ranging from orientalism to zoology. The philological library "the Berlin Brain", designed by Lord Norman Foster, underlines the modernity of the FU. Wireless access to the internet everywhere on the campus garantues a highly effective studying environment. On top of that, the green neighbourhood of the FU, the area of Berlin-Dahlem offers a quiet working atmosphere.
Moreover, the FU has established relations with more than a 100 universities all around the world.
