Since October 2007, the Albert Ludwig University has been one of the nine universities included in the Excellence Initiative. The outstanding achievements of the University of Freiburg in research and teaching and its excellent results in the universities ranking system in recent years have culminated in the award of this university seal of quality, which will guide future research at the University into quite new directions. The University has been recognised on two levels – firstly as a traditional university offering the whole spectrum of classical subjects and secondly as an institution geared to the future offering life sciences and modern engineering technology.
With its broad bandwidth of subjects, the University is a storehouse of knowledge for academics and students, which at the same time is also available to the inhabitants of the City and region.
