Basically, for almost all the scholarships awarded to students in Germany, the amount of the scholarships is calculated as a rule so that it covers the living costs. Although the first impression is that the amount seems high, by the end of the month there will be hardly anything left. When a student who already receives a scholarship earns some money in addition by having a part-time job, he must inform the supplier of the scholarships. The amount is then deducted from the funding money.
Besides the substantial support that foundations usually offer, some of them also aid the students who receive the scholarships by supporting them through the help of personal tutors at the university. Furthermore, they have the opportunity to participate in events in the educational institutions of the foundations.
The German Academic Exchange Service (GAES) provides a list with scholarship programs of the federal states and universities for the international student exchanges available to download.
In Germany, there are numerous organizations which award scholarships to international students. The GAES particularly promotes, for example, advanced students, postgraduates as well as doctoral candidates. In addition to public funding organizations, there are also many private initiatives coming from the economical system, media and politics for international young talents.
