Winter semester: from October until March (from September until February, for the Technical Colleges)
Summer semester: from April until September (from March until August for the Technical Colleges)
Lecture-free period: 3 months for Technical Colleges, 5 months for Universities and other institutions. In Germany one cannot unequivocally speak of Holidays. During this lecture-free period there are no lectures, but one might still have a lot of work to do. Exams take place at the start of the new semester as well as at the end!
